¡Adiós 2025!🦵🏾Hello, 2026! 🙋🏾♀️
One last note from me before we welcome in the new year.
Can I share something super personal?
My vision for 2025 looked nothing like I thought it would. I cannot believe that this time last year, I was submitting applications to PhD programs. Spoiler alert! I got into none of those programs, which, in many ways, was a gift I wasn’t fully able to appreciate until just recently.
NOT getting into those programs meant I had much more time and energy to focus on growing the EBWH Community. And, grow we sure did!
We started the year together as 89 souls committed to improving the health of Black women, and we’re ending this year at 189! Let’s say that if all 189 of you showed up at my apartment, we’d have to occupy the parking lot and backyard for everyone to fit.
That reality makes me so happy, because back when I started writing the EBWH Community in February 2023, we were a community of 0!
Yes, I didn’t even let my mom know what I was creating, because I didn’t know if (despite being her favorite and only daughter) she’d be interested in the work that I’m doing here. Instead, I exposed myself to the possibility that no one would sign up. I’m proud to say that, 189 members later, that risk was absolutely worth taking.
Even though I’ve faced more than a few losses this year, I will take building this community with mostly people I’ve never met in real life (IRL) - even though I’d love to one day - as a win!
Because I can’t help it, I have to share a quick sneak peek of a project that I’m working on for next month.
I’ll be sharing more details soon enough. For now, expect something exciting around MLK Day that will better support our community. 😉
See you in 2026!
Tomesha
