Is Your Nutrition Advice Doing More Harm Than Good?

It might seem counterintuitive, but healthy eating advice can harm, despite its intended purpose to help.

One of the best aspects of starting my Master Health Coaching certification is that I get to be a student again. If you’re not a “career student” like me, you might think that’s torture. For me, it’s a true blessing to be able to learn through trial and error when the stakes are low.

One of the things that we’re all relearning as coaches is that there are often legitimate reasons that a client will push back on our nutritional recommendations.

Despite what I was taught in 2016, when I obtained my first nutrition certification, nutritional recommendations that don’t consider dietary preferences, cultural, or lifestyle factors will be difficult for many to maintain.

Further, it’s been through the process of unlearning what I once believed about nutrition that I’ve come to realize:

✅ What makes nutrition advice feel shaming instead of supportive?
✅ How to talk about food without asking people to give up their culture?
✅ What inclusive nutrition looks like in practice?

In this Substack Live, I share my insights about this which I’ll expand upon in my upcoming free masterclass, How to Make Your Nutrition Advice More Inclusive in Just 60 Minutes!
